3 Hour NY SAFE: 2025 New York Law Review
A mortgage loan originator (MLO) licensed in New York is required to complete 11 total hours of continuing education annually. This includes:
- Three hours on federal mortgage-related laws
- Two hours on ethics, fraud, and consumer protection
- Two hours on traditional and non-traditional mortgage products
- One hour on elective content
- Three hours of New York-specific education
This online self-study course satisfies the three hours of required state-specific education. Within the course, students will spend time reviewing state regulations and acts impacting mortgage loan origination activities; perusing scenarios, examples, or case studies; and completing exercises to demonstrate understanding of the content.

Note: NY-DFI will not accept any hours of other state-specific education to count towards the 1 hour of elective. MLOs are advised to complete either an 11 hour NY Comprehensive course or an 8 hour Comprehensive course and a 3 hour NY elective course.
An MLO who has completed their pre-licensure education (PE) course requirements in the same year in which the license was approved is not required to complete CE within the same year.
Successive Years Rule:
A licensee may not take the same CE course two years in a row.
